Noura Wedell is a writer, scholar, translator, and an editor for Semiotext(e). She had edited a book on writing in the work of Robert Morris (Investigations: the Expanded Field of Writing in the Works of Robert Morris), has translated six books (from Toni Negri and Guy Hocquenguem to Pierre Guyotat) and has published a book of poetry Odd Directions.

Lecture 1
Towards an Institutional Pedagogy

In the contemporary context of pedagogical institutions, how can we make ours the anti-hierarchical and collective methods inaugurated by the institutional psychotherapy practiced by Félix Guattari and Jean Oury? This conference begins with aknowledging a situation of crisis in art schools, and more largely, in the academic landscape, following in part, the Bologna accords in Europe, and the explosion of the price of university in the United States. These problems, to be detailed, are part of a more general, financial, ecological and globalized crisis that has been continuing since the 1970s, if not before, and that is today expressed in unheard-of rates of economic disparities, a regime of financial management, threats to democracy, and government by debt. Faced with the repercussions of this crisis in schools, can we imagine a pedagogy, both critical and affirmative, that might found new, credible institutions? This conference sketches a short trajectory through current adjunct unionizing efforts in the American university, through several alternative institutions (The Mountain School, The Women’s Center for Creative Work), also invoking examples from the 1970s, from the Los Angeles Women’s Building to that UFO in the institutional universe called the « raft » by Fernand Deligny that floated for a while in the Cevennes Mountains in France.

Two days of practice dedicated to the embodiment of language. Exploration of the political stakes of materialist writing practices. Study of the relation between language and movement, through hatha yoga postures (asanas) and kundalini yoga (laya yoga), through breathing techniques (pranayama), and chanting (mantra). Readings from Simone Forti, Lydia Davis, CA Conrad, Ed Sanders, Eileen Myles, John Weiners, Chris Kraus, and others, along with exercises for hearing, writing, reading and perception, against all notions of failure.
Please wear confortable clothes, and bring a yoga mat if you have one.

Lecture 2
Pierre Guyotat : Reversal of the Word

If writing seems today far from any possible connection to insurrection and reversal, it is that the question has not been well posed.
Artist Pierre Guyotat has been composing, for the last fifty years, a whorehouse scene, with events and Word, which reflects our historical becoming like a dark mirror. Everything is there that is around us: slaves, whores, masters, proletarians, worlds that are more or less geographically exploded, or in enclosed pens, with zones for passes, free zones, and openings onto the streets and the workers whose desire needs to be milked.
This conference tries to articulate a few bearings to understand how Pierre Guyotat’s Word resonates, acts, and reverses what it must.

Conférence 1
Pour une pédagogie institutionnelle

Comment reprendre à notre compte, et dans le contexte contemporain des institutions de pédagogie, la démarche anti-hiérarchique et collective inaugurée par la psychothératie institutionnelle de Guattari et de Oury? Cette conférence prend départ dans une situation de crise des écoles d’art et du paysage universitaire, suite sans doute en partie aux accords de Bologne en Europe, et à l’explosion des coûts d’inscription à l’université aux Etats-Unis. Ces problèmes, qui seront détaillés, sont lovés au sein de la crise plus générale, financière, écologique, globalisée, qui dure depuis le début les années 1970, et qui s’exprime aujourd’hui par des disparités de richesse inouïe, un régime de management financier, des démocraties en danger, et un gouvernement par la dette. Face aux répercussions de cette crise dans les écoles, peut-on imaginer une pédagogie, critique et affirmative, qui serait à même de refonder des institutions crédibles? Petit parcours à travers l’effort de syndicalisation pour les travailleurs précaires  dans les universités en Californie (« adjuncts »), en passant par certaines institutions alternatives (The Mountain School, The Women’s Center for Creative Work) et des exemples des années 1970, du Women’s Building à Los Angeles à cet ovni dans l’univers institutionnel qu’est le surnommé « radeau » de Fernand Deligny qui a flotté un moment dans les Cévennes.

Deux journées de pratique dédiés à une mise en corps de la langue: Exploration des enjeux politiques d’une pratique matérialiste en écriture; Etude du rapport de la langue à la respiration et au mouvement, par la pratique de postures de hatha yoga (asana) et de kundalini yoga (laya yoga), de respiration (pranayama), et de chant (mantra); Lecture de textes de Simone Forti, Lydia Davis, CA Conrad, Ed Sanders, Eileen Myles, John Weiners, Chris Kraus, etc. accompagnés d’exercices d’écoute, d’écriture, de lecture, et de perception, contre toute notion d’échec.
Venez en habits confortables, avec un tapis de yoga si vous en avez.

Conférence 2
Pierre Guyotat: Le renversement du verbe

Si l’écriture semble aujourd’hui bien loin d’une possible articulation à l’insurrection et au renversement, c’est que la question est mal posée.
L’oeuvre de l’artiste Pierre Guyotat, compose, depuis plus de cinquante ans, une scène prostitutionnelle, avec événements et Verbe, qui reflète comme un miroir sombre notre devenir historique. Tout y est de ce qui nous entoure: esclaves, putains, maîtres, prolétaires, mondes plus ou moins explosés géographiquement ou enclos restreints, avec zones de passes, zones libres, et ouvertures sur la rue et sur le travailleur dont il faut traire le désir.
Cette conférence tente de poser quelques jalons pour comprendre comment le Verbe de Pierre Guyotat résonne, agit, et renverse ce qu’il doit.
